Thorne & Daughters – Wanderer’s Heart has a story as heartfelt as the wine itself. In the middle of 2016, we commissioned a writer friend to create a series of short children’s stories about growing up in the Cape. These tales became the inspiration behind the names of our red wines, weaving a thread of imagination and memory into each bottle.
The 2018 Wanderer’s Heart is our Cape Red, a blend built around the extraordinary vineyards scattered across the Western Cape. Every vineyard site adds its own personality, creating a wine that is both layered and beautifully expressive. On the nose, Thorne & Daughters – Wanderer’s Heart reveals aromas of ripe purple figs, fragrant rosemary oil, and subtle sandalwood. These complex scents set the stage for a palate that is poised, elegant, and refined.
In the mouth, the wine opens with soft, chalky tannins that provide structure without overwhelming the fruit. This gives way to lingering flavours of red plums, juniper berries, and cranberries. Bright, keenly balanced, and pure in its fruit expression, the wine is completed by a fine dusting of tannin that frames the finish with precision and finesse.
Thorne & Daughters – Wanderer’s Heart is a versatile partner for the table, pairing beautifully with dishes such as roasted lamb, venison, herb-crusted chicken, or rich vegetarian stews. It is equally enjoyable on its own, offering a contemplative and rewarding experience in every glass.
